Pictures of the kittens (now 10 weeks old), taken just a few minutes ago. Hard to get them all to look at the camera at the same time.

It was 101 degrees so we packed them all in the crate and brought them in from the porch to cool off in the air conditioned living room. I think they appreciated it. They are back out on the porch now.

Monday, June 25
The kittens are 10 weeks old. Sis took them back to the vet this morning for their booster shots. They are all 2 pounds or more now and healthy. Even the runt has snapped out of it and is just as big and active as the others. Guess we must be pretty good foster mamas.

It got up to over 100 degrees this afternoon and we set them indoors in their crate for awhile to cool off. It is expected to be even hotter - perhaps 105 degrees on Tuesday.

I called Wal-Mart for a refill on my blood pressure medicine - must remember to pick it up after work Tuesday.

We went to Eagle Pass this morning to church. The pastor is moving to another church and this was her last Sunday there. About a dozen of the mission group members from San Antonio went. She gave a good sermon. We had taken along food and we all had a potluck dinner there after church.

We got home a little after 4 p.m. It was a hot drive - 2 1/2 hours each way. We do have air conditioning in the pickup, but it wasn't as cool as I would have liked.

Sis finished this shawl earlier this week. I've started another one but I haven't got a picture of it yet.

The birds are really singing this morning. One sounds like it is saying, "pretty, pretty, pretty". Other different birds are singing and I can hear a train in the distance. I'm always amazed that I can hear the trains, as the nearest tracks are two or three miles from here. But at night and in the early morning, I can often hear them.

Sis woke up with a bad headache this morning. If it eases off in a little while, we may go out to breakfast.
Noon
We did go out to breakfast, then to Wal-Mart for our weekly shopping.

After we got home, we did laundry, cleaned litter boxes and mopped the back porch.

I'm having a company come out next week and give me an estimate on cutting down this tree (before a storm knocks it down on our cars or home). It is a tall one, but rotted out a lot all around the bottom.

We got a good little rain shower yesterday morning. It has been so dry here for so long that the ground just sucked it up really fast. The weather forecaster says we might get a little more today. I sure hope so.

I got my gas & electric bill today and it has gone up $60 more than last month. The next two months will probably be even hotter, so it will probably be even higher for the rest of the summer.

We've had two days so far that got up to over 100 degrees, but will probably have more. Last year was horribly hot with many more 100+ days than usual.

I've made arrangements to have my car repainted - the same color as the original paint. It is an old car and has lots of places where the paint has peeled off and some surface rust.

The kittens were on the table on the porch - "knocking" on the window. So I went out and fed them their breakfast. Now they are happy. They are so lively.

I had ribs, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad for supper last night.

My latest prayer shawl is about 2/3 finished. I should have worked more on it during the night. I sure haven't been sleeping very well.

Today is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

We went to Epworth this evening (Monday). Donna showed a video of her recent mission trip to Guatamala with a dental group. It was very interesting.

We ate at home today. Sis fell one day this past week and pulled a muscle in her back. She is in quite a bit of pain.

It is in the mid-90's again this afternoon.

My computer is working again. I don't know what the problem was, although I did change out the monitor. But I've had to switch back and forth between two monitors I have, more than once in the past.

We went back to the farmer's market this morning. Here are some pictures we took there and some of the vegetables we bought there.

I'm having computer problems - posting this from someone else's computer. So I may not be able to post on here for a few days.

I knitted the two variegated shawls and Sis crocheted the scarf. I am now working on a white one. We are both part of a prayer shawl group that meets once a week.

Today is expected to be another 100+ degree day.

The kittens are now eight weeks old, so we were able to put the flea drops on them this morning - well, we managed three of them. The little yellow and white one - Buffy - is so hard to catch. We'll have to put their food pan inside the crate this evening and get him when he goes inside. The other three are more socialized.

We ate breakfast at Bud Jones Restaurant this morning, then did some shopping at Wal-Mart.

By the time we got home and got the groceries put away, it was around 9 a.m. So then we went to the open air Pearl Farmer’s Market. It was the first time we had been there.

They had lots of fresh produce and other items. We brought home arugula, cantaloupe, radishes, and tomatoes. We didn’t stay long enough to see all of the booths as it was getting hot and humid, but as it is right here in town, we will go again another Saturday. I get an email from them every Friday, telling what produce will be offered that weekend.

Lots of people had their dogs along and Sis took a picture of one that had a cart attached. That was handy. I wished I had something like that to put my bags in as they were getting quite heavy.




We had tuna salad sandwiches with sliced tomatoes and arugula for lunch with cottage cheese and some of the cantaloupe.

This afternoon I did laundry, rested awhile, then swept and mopped the back porch where we keep the kittens. After that dries I will change their litter boxes and hopefully be able to relax for the rest of the evening.

I find I have to rest a lot oftener between chores than I did a few years ago. Aging takes a lot out of a person. But I comfort myself with the knowledge that even if it takes longer, I still am able to do it.

Yesterday morning while we were having coffee on the back porch, we saw 4 blue jays on the fence at the end of the yard by the alley. I wish I could have gotten a picture of them - never a camera handy when you need one.

Sis got up during the night and discovered our house cat, Calvin, was still on the back porch. He was not at all happy and was pacing back and forth on the window ledge. He is lying beside me on the desk right now.

Today has been very hot. It is almost 7:30 p.m. and still 94 degrees. The kittens were lying on the screened-in back porch looking so hot that we put them all in their crate and brought them into the house where it is air conditioned. They don't seem to mind being in the crate. I will take them back out and let them out of the crate in a couple of hours when it cools down a little bit.

A friend at church gave me a large eggplant that he had grown in his garden.

When I got home, the yard man was here mowing our yard. I hadn't expected him to come before tomorrow. The kittens on the back porch were frightened at the sound of the mower and hid until he left. Then they came out again.

After church this morning we went to Luby's for lunch.

We talked to our friend, Lori from Ohio this afternoon. It was good to visit with her.

The lilac-colored crepe myrtle is in full bloom outside our screened porch. None of the others in the yard have started to bloom yet. I guess we need to fill the humming bird feeders soon.

We went to a yogurt shop called Peachwave this evening. It is fairly new in this area and we hadn't tried it before. I liked it.

We ate breakfast at Wendy's this morning. I had their sausage pannini sandwich sandwich with coffee. It was really good. Then we did some grocery shopping.

Sis ordered an old-fashioned popcorn popper thru ebay. It looks a lot like one our father used to use. It came today and she lost no time in trying it out. The popcorn was delicious and the memories are great too.

At 10:30, I had an appointment at the beauty shop to get my hair washed and colored. That makes me feel so much better.

June 1 – Friday
There was a meeting at church that I needed to attend at 5 p.m. It lasted about an hour. After I got home from that, we went to Wal-Mart and picked up the rest of my prescription. When I went in earlier this week, they only had enough to give me a three-day supply.

Then we went to a little diner and had supper. It’s a nice little restaurant and we have been there a couple of times before. They did mess up my order this time and brought me breaded veal instead of the grilled pork chop that I had ordered, but it was nearly closing time and I didn’t want to wait any longer, so I took that instead.
