I went to the lab and got my blood drawn before going to work this morning. The doctor sent me to a different lab than last time and I didn't realize it until I got to the one I usually go to. Fortunately it was practically next door.
It was a fasting blood test, so I had to wait until I got to work to have breakfast and take my medicine. I had taken a peanut butter sandwich and a can of grapefruit juice along to have for breakfast.
It was quiet at work, but I had the usual Monday paperwork to do.
For supper we had cornbread and beans and watermelon. I didn't eat any beans since they affected me so badly the last time.
I got the car filled with gas after I got off work. It was 11 cents per gallon cheaper than when I last had it filled on July 28th. It was 2.44.9 per gallon this afternoon.

Saturday afternoon
We had to run an errand on the other side of town this morning. On the way home we ate breakfast at Jim's Restaurant. I had scrambled eggs with biscuit and gravy and coffee. It was delicious.
We stopped at a yard sale also. They didn't have a lot that we were interested in, but Sis did find a small ceramic water fountain.
For lunch we just had bagels with cream cheese.
This afternoon I made a loaf of sourdough French bread in the bread machine. It isn't quite done yet, but is in the bake cycle and is smelling delicious. The big challenge of baking bread in a bread machine is not to eat the whole loaf at one sitting. It is so delicious, hot with butter.

A hot weekend
It is still getting near 100 degrees every day.
After church yesterday we went out to eat. I ordered grilled chicken breast, green beans and salad. Rolls came with it too, and I ate one and just had water to drink. Then for supper I just had a dish of low-fat peach sherbet with a handful of mixed berries over it. That all sounds low-calorie...right? So why did I gain a pound? I was so aggravated when I stepped on the scale this morning.
For breakfast this morning I had two slices of whole wheat toast spread with a bit of cream cheese, and a handful of blueberries and red raspberries, and a cup of black coffee.

Saturday afternoon

Sis went to Piedras Negras, Mexico for the day with the mission group. They took supplies to the orphanages and were to take the children to a water park and cook hot dogs and hamburgers for them. She baked cookies to take along for them too. I think they were expecting to take about 40 children on the outing. She left here about 6:30 a.m. to go meet the rest of the group.
After she left, I did two loads of laundry and got it folded and put away. Then I started feeling really down and dragging, so I went back to bed for an hour or so. I got up later and still felt like I was in a fog, so I went back to bed and slept until almost noon. That time when I got up I felt much better, so I went shopping and bought some new shoes and stopped at Wendy’s and got myself a hamburger and frosty milk shake for lunch. I’ve felt okay since then, but it is so hot outside I sure wouldn’t want to be doing anything outdoors. It is around 100 and the heat index is even higher.
I was working on the computer a little while ago when I heard a scratching around the window behind me. I thought it was the cat, but when I looked around, there was a little squirrel on the outside of the window, scratching like he thought he was going to come in. It was so cute. I tapped on the window and he left in a hurry.
We’ve been fighting wasps on the patio all week. They built nests all around under the roof and were swarming around so we couldn’t use the hot tub. I bought a bunch of cans of hornet & wasp spray and Sis sprayed them several times and finally got the nests knocked down and out of there. But they keep coming back and trying to build more nests. I don’t know what they like so much about that area. The hot tub is kept covered when it isn’t in use.

Tues & Wed
I went to the doctor on Tuesday, Aug 10, to get new prescriptions. I had gained 3 pounds since the last time I was there. He wants me to have blood tests and come back in 4 weeks.
Wednesday - It finally hit 100 degrees at the airport today. Frankly, it has felt that hot or hotter quite a bit lately.
I went to Wal-Mart and picked up my prescriptions after work this afternoon. Then we went to Snoga's for supper. I had turkey and dressing with no gravy, cranberry sauce, marinated cucumber slices, and mixed fruit salad. Also a slice of whole wheat bread.
After we got home, I went to church for the weekly sing-along. There were 10 of us there.

It has been another very hot day - what else should I expect in August?
We didn't eat out after church this morning. Instead we had canteloupe, cottage cheese and sliced fresh plums. It was a very refreshing meal.
After that I took a nap and made up for a little of the sleep I missed out on last night.

Saturday night
We got some coupons in the mail this week for the nearby IHOP Express. With the coupon if we buy two beverages and one entree, we can get the second entree free. We used one coupon this morning and each of us got a large coffee and the breakfast sampler, which consisted of scrambled eggs, hash browns, 2 pancakes, 2 sausages, 2 strips of bacon and 2 ssmall slices of ham. It was very good, but I only ate one of the pancakes as I was quite full by the time I got the rest eaten. I ended up bringing most of my coffee home.
I did my laundry this morning, then we went to some yard sales and ended up getting 2blouses and a skirt and blouse set for $6.
We had grilled cheese sandwiches for a late lunch.
This evening we went to Wendy's and had salads and coffee. I tried their new apple-pecan salad. Delicious. It's not often that we eat out twice in one day.
I went to bed at the usual time but just lay there unable to get to sleep, so I finally got up and turned the computer back on. Maybe after while I'll get sleepy and can go back to bed.
It was way up in the high 90's again today. I doubt that it got to 100, but it was extremely hot anyway.

A lazy Sunday
The August heat has arrived. It has been 100 degrees about all afternoon. When I opened the back door to let Precious outside, the heat hit me like a blast from opening an oven door. Needless to say, Precious didn't feel it necessary to stay outside for a very long time.
It is comfortable enough inside. We keep the air conditioning set on 81. A lot of people like to set it on 78, but it feels very cold to me indoors when it gets down to that tempeature.
When I got to church at 7 a.m. to open up, the thermostat in the sanctuary said 88. I turned it on and by the time the morning service started, it was comfortable in there. That is the reason I go in so early on Sundays. If I waited until closer to time for the service, it would still be hot in the sanctuary.
We went to Sea Island Shrimp House for lunch. I had two pieces of fish, two hush puppies, cole slaw and a small ear of corn. It was a nice dinner and almost more than I could eat. I should have brought part of the fish home. That, of course, called for an afternoon nap.
Then I read for awhile. I'm still reading At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon. That book has such long chapters. I didn't make it through the whole chapter before I put it down until later. My eyes burn if I read too long.
We had leftover spaghetti with meat sauce for supper, with cooked yellow squash. For dessert we had mince pie.
We played a couple of games of Mexican dominoes after supper.
