Gen. 31, Psa. 31, Mark 3
Calvin threw a "cat fit" about 2 a.m. and after I ignored his meowing, he came flying through the bedroom hitting the blinds and making a big racket. I threw him out of the bedroom and shut the door. But I couldn't sleep so I soon got up and came out. Digger was crying in her bedroom too, and it was cold in there, so I let her out and fed her. As I write this, she is sitting on top of the computer tower grooming herself and Calvin is lying quietly in the rocking chair.
After church we went to Golden Corral for dinner. What a crowd! The food was good but it was like eating in a train station or a school cafeteria, so crowded and noisy. I don't think I will be ready to eat there again soon.
It was cold all day.

Gen. 30, Psa. 30, Mark 2
I didn't sleep much at all last night. I just tossed and turned and maybe slept an hour finally. I got up at 4:00 a.m.
I took short naps several times today to make up for it.
This afternoon I went to fill up the car with gas, but there were so many people in line at all the pumps that I gave up and decided to try again tomorrow.
We had fried chicken livers, mashed potatoes and peas for lunch.
For supper I had chicken gumbo soup by Progresso. Sis didn't want that, so she heated up the leftovers from lunch.

Gen. 29, Psa. 29, Mark 1
It was raining steadily and fairly heavily when I got up at 4:30 a.m. But later in the morning the sun started shining.
The three pair of slacks I ordered from Haband arrived today: black, navy blue, and bark brown. They fit great.
I got my hair done this afternoon.

When I got home from the beauty shop, I brought the potted plants in from the patio and put them in the garage as we are expecting freezing temperatures both tonight and tomorrow night.

Gen. 28, Psa. 28, Matt. 28
It started raining during the night and was raining when I got up at 4:30 a.m.
We took two loads of Billye's things that had been stored in our garage to the church this morning for their upcoming rummage sale. Phoebe came later and helped Barbara price them.
At lunchtime, Sis and I went to Pizza Hut and had their pizza buffet.
The repairman came to fix the kitchen stove today but the new part didn't work either. He ordered another one and came back after 3 p.m. to install it. He tried it a couple of times and it worked, but later I tried to bake biscuits for supper and it acted up again. When the preheat time was up, it beeped and showed an error message. We had to unplug it for a few minutes, just like we did before.
We had chicken florentine and whole wheat biscuits for supper.

I got up at 3:30 a.m. I had a banana for breakfast with toast and peanut butter.
Phoebe and I took some things to church for the rummage sale, then she stayed for a couple of hours and helped Barbara sort and price them. But her back got to hurting so bad that she had to go home and rest for awhile.
At lunch time I went to What-a-Burger and got us each a patty melt sandwich on Texas
Toast. I had a coupon to supersize a patty melt meal, so I got that and an extra patty melt sandwich so we could each have one and share the large fries and Diet Dr. Pepper.
The new part for the kitchen range was delivered this afternoon. The company is to send someone out Thursday to install it.
For supper I had a container of peach-mango yogurt and a banana. Later Phoebe made brownies for tomorrow's bunco game and I ate one of those.

When I got up this morning it was only 64 degrees inside. The furnace isn't working. I will have to call the heating company this morning to come check it. No wonder I had to pull on extra blankets during the night.
We got Wilks Heating to come out this morning and he had to replace the pilot light assembly. He will send us a bill.
We went to Snoga's for supper. I had chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, mixed fruit, and a slice of wheat bread.
Then we went to Office Depot and I bought ink cartridges for both my printer and the one at the office, 11x17 paper for the office, a book of postage stamps for the office, and a telephoe and duplex telephone jack for my fax machine at home. I'm having trouble getting it hooked up right though.

There were only 38 in church this morning.
After church Phoebe and I went to Spaghetti Warehouse for dinner. I had the 4-cheese manicotti, salad, sourdough bread and lemonade. Phoebe had the alfredo chicken with bread, salad, and lemonade. It was very good. It filled me up so much that I am not eating any supper.

Jan 21, 2010. I read Genesis 21, Psa. 21, and Matt. 21.
It got up to 80 degrees today.
We took some things to church for the upcoming rummage sale.
Phoebe made two dozen pints of pear butter today. Her back sure has been bothering her a lot lately. Today was especially bad.
We went to the Red Barn for supper. I had a small club steak, baked potato, salad, and roll.

Wednesday, Jan 20.
I read Gen 20, Psa 20, and Matt 20.
The food pantry was open today but they didn't have quite as many people show up - probably 71 or 73 instead of the usual 100.
We had Marie Callendar microwavable pot pies and beef tamales for supper.
Phyllis sent an email that she is cancelling the Nov pen pal rally. Quite a shock as some of us had already reserved our motel rooms and made other plans. She didn't give much explanation.

I read Genesis 19, Psalm 19, and Matthew 19.
I had orange juice, oatmeal, and two slices of cinnamon-raisin toast for breakfast.
For lunch we had vegetable soup.
The service company repairman came at 5:00 p.m. to check our gas stove. The oven had been malfunctioning. He determined that the clock unit is bad and ordered another one. He is scheduled to come back between 8 and noon on the 28th to install it.

I read Genesis 18, Psalm 18, and Matthew 18.
Since I didn't have to work today, I slept a couple hours later. That is very unusual for me, even on my days off.
After breakfast I went to the grocery and got coffee, pet food and a few more things we were running low on.
We went to the appliance store this afternoon where Phoebe bought our gas range a few months ago. It hasn't been acting right when we turn the oven on. It is still under warranty so they gave her a phone number to call to arrange for a service call. The serviceman is to come between 8 and 5 tomorrow.
We finished up the leftover pizza for supper tonight.
I read Genesis 18, Psalm 18, and Matthew 18.

I read Genesis 17, Psalm 17, and Matthew 17.
I opened at church this morning. We had 45 at the morning service.
Sis made a pizza for lunch. It had cream cheese instead of tomato sauce and for toppings she put on hamburger, cheese, onions, and green peppers. She made the dough in the bread machine. It was excellent.

I read Genesis 16, Psalm 16, and Matthew 16 this morning.
I went to the office and checked the buckets upstairs. There wasn’t any water in them this time. Then I made copies of the Haiti Emergency Inserts and put them in each of the bulletins for tomorrow.
I went with Sis to deliver some of the chemo and baby caps and scarflets she had made for the hospital. Then we stopped at a Jim’s Restaurant for lunch. I had a cup of Canadian Cheese Soup, half a chicken salad sandwich, slaw and coffee. It was delicious.
After we got back home, I washed my hair and Sis rolled it for me.
I ordered 3 pair of slacks from Haband online, in navy blue, black, and brown.
We watched some of the cooking and gardening shows on PBS this afternoon.

As I suspected, that turkey pot pie had too many calories for me to eat in the evening and I gained back .8 of a pound.
It is still raining this morning. It is 5:40 as I write this.
I took my Boniva at 5:00 a.m. and had to wait an hour before eating breakfast.
Then I had oatmeal, coffee and orange juice.
I read Genesis 15, Psalm 15, and Matthew 15.
Sis went along to the office with me this morning. We went upstairs and emptied the buckets where rain had dripped in from the leaky roof.
Jim came in later and vacuumed the sanctuary.
After we left at noon, we went to the bank, then stopped at Bill Miller’s for lunch. I had a turkey poor boy sandwich and a piece of pecan pie.
This afternoon I took a nap. Then we went to the Lutheran church for their Third Friday lasagna supper. I got mine in a to-go plate and brought half home for another meal. We had lasagna, green beans, cole slaw, garlic bread, coffee and dessert, for $6 a plate. I picked out a piece of cherry dump cake for dessert.
It is hard to imagine half of the first month of 2010 is already over.

It was just after 4 a.m. when I woke up. We had more rain during the night.
I read Genesis 14, Psalm 14, and Matthew 14.
I had oatmeal, a banana, cinnamon-raisin bread, and peanut butter for breakfast, with coffee.
There was fog and light rain intermittently throughout the day.
Sis brought tuna subs, broccoli-cheese soup, and homemade oatmeal-raisin cookies for lunch.
Sis called the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville, TX and ordered our room for the Texas Pen Pal Rally to be held Nov 2-6, 2010. She asked for a ground floor room and they said they would try hard.
For supper we had Marie Callendar turkey pot pies.
It started raining steadily about 7:00 p.m. and expected to rain heavily for the next 24 hours.

For lunch she went to Burger King and got each of us a Whopper. We had a coupon to buy one, get one free.
There was a finance committee meeting at 2 p.m. and I attended that.

I read Genesis 11, Psalm 11, and Matthew 11.
It warmed up a good bit today and isn’t expected to freeze again for the next few days.
I was very busy at work today.
I came home for lunch and we had fried egg sandwiches and fruit jello.

I got up a little after 3 a.m., but not because of Calvin this time. My legs were aching and I just couldn’t lie there anymore.
Last night before I went to bed I had fixed the coffeepot so that it was ready to plug in, so I turned it on. For breakfast I had a cup of coffee, a bowl of oatmeal (instant microwavable packet), and a slice of buttered bread machine bread.
I read Genesis 9, Psalm 9, and Matthew 9.
When Sis went to feed the kitties, I went along and then we went to IHOP Express for brunch. Later, Sis made homemade vegetable soup and we had some of that for lunch. I definitely think I’d better not eat anything else today.
That was a good thought, but I didn’t follow through. I had a smoked sausage on a bun and a buenello for supper.

I read Genesis 8, Psalm 8, and Matthew 8.
For breakfast I had oatmeal, a banana and coffee.
It was 28 degrees when I got up at 4:30 a.m. I could have stayed under the warm blankets awhile longer, but the cat, Calvin was meowing insistently. He is so convinced that I am oversleeping if I sleep that long.
By 6:15 a.m. it was down to 27 degrees. I think the lowest this morning was 25 degrees.
I got off work at noon. I came home and had a bowl of tomato soup. Sis had used a recipe I found on the internet. It calls for a can of tomato soup with the addition of chopped onion, basil, garlic powder, butter, and a cup of milk. It was very good. I also ate the rest of the chicken I had saved from yesterday.
I went to the beauty shop at 1:00.
For supper we had smoked sausages on whole wheat buns and sliced scrapple.
I made a loaf of French honey bread in the bread machine and we each had a slice of that with butter later.
It is predicted to get down to 14 degrees tonight.

It was close to 4:00 a.m. when I got up.
I read Genesis 7, Psalm 7, and Matthew 7. http://bibleresources.bible.com/
For breakfast I had a glass of orange juice, coffee, oatmeal, and whole grain toast with peanut butter.
For lunch Sis picked up chicken dinners from KFC and we ate in my office. There was fried chicken, slaw, macaroni and cheese, and a biscuit. I ate one piece of chicken and a little of the other, but saved the rest of the chicken for another time.
The house payment check came today – a little earlier than usual.
For supper I just had an apple.
I redid some reports today after finding an error last night. I also ran off the bulletins for Sunday and researched information for the year-end report which is due by Jan 20th.
We talked to Fred tonight.
It is expected to get down to 20 degrees tonight. I wrapped the outside faucets and let the water trickle from both of them.

I slept until 3:00 in the recliner, then went back and slept for an hour and a half in the bed. I say slept, but not all that time because Calvin started meowing for me to get up at 3:30 and even when I shut him out of the room, he meowed outside the door for an hour.
I had two slices of whole grain toast, coffee, ¼ cup of dried fruit/nut mixture, and half an orange for breakfast
I read Genesis 6, Psalm 6, and Matthew 6.
I worked on files again today, boxing up the 2009 files. We have to keep them for seven years.
I came home for lunch and we had tomato soup, pancakes with corn in them, and stewed fruit.
After I got off work this afternoon we went to the grocery and stocked up on cat food, cat litter, and groceries. The bill came to $63.09.
For supper we had chili and smoked sausages on whole wheat buns.
I ran the empty dishwasher with a package of powdered lemon Kool-Aid to clean it out. The citric acid in the Kool-Aid is supposed to be good for that. The article I read said it should be done every few months.

I woke up at 3:25 a.m. without Calvin’s help this time. I fed him and Digger.
It was 34 when I turned on the computer.
I read Genesis 5, Psalm 5, and Matthew 5.
At 5:30 I put on a pot of coffee.
It was 29 degrees when I left for work around 7:20 a.m.
Sis picked up a pizza from Little Caesar’s and brought it to church for her, me, and Nancy for lunch.
After I got off work this afternoon I took the car to Firestone and had them check the coolant and tires. All were fine.
We had chicken and vegetables with penne for supper (a microwavable meal in a bag) that I had in the freezer.
I washed several loads of laundry tonight.

I started out sleeping in my bed last night but after about an hour, I had to go back to the recliner, where I spent the rest of the night.
At 3:30 a.m. as usual, Calvin decided it was time to get up and meowed like an alarm clock.
I had a buenello, half of an orange, a slice of homemade bread, and a cup of coffee for breakfast.
I read Genesis 4, Psalm 4, and Matthew 4.
I entered the 12/20 and 12/27 tithe info on the tithe program on my computer and backed it up to a flash drive.
I had a lot of paperwork to catch up on after a week off from work – I didn’t get it all done yet.
Sis picked up a 12-inch tuna sub from Subway and we split it for lunch.
I called Wal-Mart to order my prescriptions and after I got off work this afternoon we went and I picked them up and got some rubber bands and folders for work. The co-pay went up on Boniva. I now have to pay $45 instead of $40.
I had a big bowl of Healthy Choice Old-Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup for supper with a slice of the homemade bread. That loaf sure didn’t last long. I think there may be one left.

It is 48 degrees at 6:30 a.m.
I had a package of microwave oatmeal and coffee for breakfast.
I slept in my bed instead of the recliner for the last couple of hours this morning. It made my ribs ache a little, but not nearly as bad as a few days ago. I can tell they are getting better.
I read Genesis 3, Psalm 3, and Matthew 3.
I went to church a little before 8 a.m. and put the coffee and heat on, made out checks, and unlocked the doors.
Sam was the guest preacher today and he gave a good testimony of his life and the way God has worked in it.
We ate at home today: ham, baked potatoes and corn.
I made a loaf of French bread in the bread machine this evening. It turned out good. We had some for supper with egg salad.
We took down the Christmas tree tonight.

I woke up at 2:30 a.m. and got up for awhile. I tried sleeping again around 3:30, but was unable to, so I am up again.
I fed the cats, made a pot of coffee and checked my email.
I read Genesis 2, Psalm 2, and Matthew 2.
It is 32 degrees at 4:53 a.m.
I was planning to make whole wheat waffles for breakfast, but they stuck to the waffle iron again, so I made pancakes instead. We had orange slices and coffee with them.
Sis cleaned at her church from 8:30 till about 9:30.
I went back to the recliner a little before 8:30 and slept or rested for 3 hours.
We had microwaved Marie Callendar chicken pot pies for lunch.
Phoebe fixed mackerel patties and greens for supper. We also had mixed fruit.
Later we went to check the church mail and to feed the pastor’s cats.
I read aloud several more chapters of “The Cat Who Wasn’t There” by Lillian Jackson Braun.

Jan 1, 2010 - There...I've finally written it. As usual, Calvin, the cat woke me around 3:15 a.m.
I thought perhaps since my ribs were feeling better that I could sleep in the bed last night, but when I lay down, they started hurting again, so I went back to the recliner. The fireworks were going off continuously from 9 a.m. on. It was really windy and on the news people were being asked not to set off fireworks inside the city limits, but I couldn't tell where anybody was cutting back on them.
I drifted off to sleep but at 3:15 a.m. I heard some scrabbling around. I got up and turned on the light and Calvin was chasing a little ball of Sis's yarn around the floor. He is running around full of energy this morning.
It is 42 here, according to the computer.
