Wed, Apr 28, 2010

I did a little more cleaning of files at the office today, then made out the checks to pay the bills that are coming up. Two people will be coming in tomorrow to sign them. I also did the weekly bulletin and ran off copies of it.

Jim came in and fixed the faulty doorbell this morning and did some of the cleaning since our custodian is off recuperating from a fall at his other place of employment.

The weekly art group and the monthly bunco group both met today in different rooms there.

Marshall and Gene stopped in on their way to a woodworking meeting in another city, and Nancy was in and out during the day, so all in all, it was a busy day. Marshall brought in his portion of the May newsletter and Nancy gave me her part.

Coke stopped in and brought me some brisket, beans, potato salad, and rolls that were left over from a supper he and his wife prepared for their lodge group. That will be good for tomorrow night's supper.

I made egg salad turnovers and sugar peas for tonight's supper. Sis came home from work feeling bad and had to lie down awhile before she felt like eating.

Tuesday, Apr 27, 2010

I had asked our yard man last week to mow again. He finally came yesterday while I was at work. Then he came over to the office to collect. I had already made out a check for him but couldn’t find it in my purse when he got here. So I asked him to come by the house and pick it up after I got home from work. Sure enough when I got home I found it on my desk there.

We had hot dogs and cottage cheese for supper. Later I made a banana custard pie. The lady that I got the recipe from called it Banana Bread Pie, but it really is the same thing as the banana custard pie that I have in my Bisquick files. I substituted Splenda and regular evaporated milk for the can of sweetened condensed milk that the recipe called for.

The little tomato plants I set out yesterday afternoon are still doing okay. Maybe they will make it. I watered them again this morning and this evening. I need to get some Miracle-Gro to put on them.

Monday, Apr 26, 2010

It got up to 88 degrees this afternoon. I set out 12 little tomato plants this afternoon after I got home from work and when I came back inside, I was really hot and tired. Sure can tell I'm not in my 20's any more. I took a half hour nap and then got up and watched Jeopardy and the news.

We had leftovers for supper - spaghetti and meat balls for Sis; rice with spaghetti sauce and meat balls for me. We had a green salad with it.

The weekend (Sat-Sun, Apr 24-25, 2010)

Saturday, Apr 24
We had a storm during the night with sleet or small hail. It woke me up around 1:30 a.m. I got up to look out the window and my cell phone rang. I could tell by the ringtone that it was the alarm company calling about the burglar alarm at work. I had the call forwarding on from the office. I'm not on the list of people for them to call, so I didn't answer it. They would automatically call one of the people on the list. It rang a couple more times during the night and one of the men on the list went and met the police there. It turned out that one of the lower level doors hadn't been locked securely (both sides of the double door have to be locked)and a police officer checking the area had pulled on it and it opened and set off the alarm.

Sis was called for a temporary job next week at a location we are not familiar with, so we took a trial run this morning to see how to get there, after map-questing the address.

On the way home we ate breakfast at IHOP. It was actually more of a brunch by the time we got there.

Sunday, Apr 25

After church this morning we went to a cafeteria-style restaurant for lunch. I am trying to lose weight again so I just had a salad and a corn muffin with butter.

For supper I had a dish of sliced strawberries with a biscuit (strawberry shortcake).

I tried several different shots of Calvin, but he was too sleepy to do much.

I got my hair cut today.

We had spaghetti with meat balls for supper, with salad and french bread. Later we had apple pie and ice cream for dessert.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

The mobile food pantry from the food bank came and parked in the office parking lot this morning. It was quite a success. Around 100 families were served.

I made a meat loaf before I left for work this morning and we had part of it with fried green tomatoes for supper. We had apple pie for dessert.

Tuesday, Apr 20, 2010

So far this morning it is sunny. I have been printing out reports at work and finally took a break. I mailed in the 941 report to the IRS for the 1st quarter - glad to finally get that out of the way. There is a meeting at 2 pm that I will have to attend.

I plan to fix pork chops for supper. Sis brought home some snow peas so we'll probably have them too. That was a good supper. We also had fresh strawberries for dessert.

Friday, and Saturday, April 9th,10, 2010

Friday evening Sis left for Florida to spend a week visiting friends she knew when she lived there for so many years. She rented a car (a black Kia) and drove. She has been calling along the route on her cell phone. She drove as far as Baytown, Texas last night. Then
Saturday morning she started out again and went through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and just a few minutes ago she called and said she had crossed into Florida. I don't think she will make it clear to Marco Island without stopping for the night. I'd rather see her stop another night along the way and not try to drive after dark.

After she left Friday evening, I went to Wal-Mart and picked up my prescription refills.

I started cleaning out the two closets in my room this weekend. This morning I took three bags of clothes and old computer equipment and other things to the Good Will donation station a couple of miles from here and dropped them off. I've still got plenty more to do.

I cleaned out the refrigerator Saturday morning. I hate that job. There's always something in the back somewhere that I look at and think, "What was that?" But it looked so much better after I got finished.

Then the custodian from work called and needed something notarized so I went over and did that. It only takes me three minutes to drive over there.

I went to the library and turned in a book while I was out and about. I should have stopped and got more canned cat food for Calvin.

I was getting tired after all that so I lay down and took a nap for about an hour and a half. That's when Sis called and said she had crossed into Florida. So then I got back up and unloaded the dishwasher and poured myself a cup of coffee. It's 20 till 4 right now and I don't think I'm going to do much else today. I may just open a can of ravioli for supper and have a little dish of ice cream for dessert.

Sis called just before 10 p.m. She had stopped for the night at a motel near Ocala, Florida. She said traffic was very heavy and it was getting hard to drive after dark.

I had just gone to bed, but I wasn’t sleepy yet so I got back up and watched the 10 p.m. news. and then went back to bed.

Sunday, Apr 11, 2010

After church this morning I came home and heated up the rest of the ravioli from yesterday and had a salad with it.

Sis called. She got to Marco Island in time to attend services at the church she used to go to.

Monday, Apr 12, 2010

It was cloudy and drizzling rain off and on today. I went to the store after work and got some more cat food for Calvin and a frozen dinner for myself.

Tuesday, Apr 13, 2010

Don H. stopped by the church and picked up the IRS paperwork this morning and Sally W’s phone number so he can check with her about it. She is a CPA.

I went to Wendy’s after work and got a double stack cheeseburger and a small Frosty for supper.

It was cloudy all day with occasional drizzle.

It is definitely boring here without Sis. She called tonight.

Wednesday, Apr 14, 2010I slept until the alarm went off at 4:30 this morning. I had a fried egg sandwich for breakfast.
Thursday, April 15, 2010Some people think their dogs understand every word they say and some don’t. I’ve never thought they understood more than basic commands and things like “Do you want to go outside?”, but a funny thing happened yesterday.
When I emptied a small can of cat food into Calvin’s dish, I set the can on the floor for Precious to clean out. She picked it up and started into the other room with it. I said, “Bring it back when you are done.” A few minutes later I was sitting at my computer and she brought it back and dropped it on the floor in front of me – licked clean. Naturally I told her what a good dog she was, but it startled me. I had figured I’d have to go look for the can and see where she left it.

Saturday, Apr 17, 2010

It rained almost all day and was so dark this morning that the street and yard lights didn't go off until almost 8:30 a.m. I had planned to run some errands, but the weather was so bad that I just stayed home.

Sunday, April 18, 2010
Sis got home this evening. Coming through Houston was a nightmare as it was raining so hard that she couldn't see the exits or anything. But after she got through Katy, there was no more rain. I helped her unload the car and she cleaned it out so that she can turn it back in to the car rental agency tomorrow morning.

I had fixed dried lima beans with ham for supper and for dessert we each had a piece of the pineapple cake that I had made for her birthday.

Monday, April 19, 2010
This morning Sis took the rental car back. I met her there and brought her home. Then I went on to work.

This evening we had hot dogs, corn, sliced tomatoes, and strawberries for supper.

Apr 5 thru 8th, 2010

Monday, April 5, 2010 Deuteronomy 1, Psalm 96, Acts 6

I came home for lunch and had a ham sandwich and some fruit. For supper I just had some fruit. I am trying to lose some weight.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Deuteronomy 2, Psalm 97-98, Acts 5

I had a grapefruit and coffee for breakfast.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010I have been trying to eat a light but healthy breakfast, a filling lunch and little to no supper. So far it has been working and I have lost several pounds of what I consider “loose fat”, or weight that I have just gained recently from not watching what I eat. I know that I can’t continue to lose at that pace, even if I continue that eating pattern.

Thursday, April 8, 2010 Deuteronomy 3 & 4, Psalm 99, 100, Acts 6 and 7
Five years ago today I went to the Animal Defense League and got Precious.

Not a lot different at work, just the usual.

I came home for lunch, the house payment check was in the mail so I took it to the bank, then went back to work for the rest of the day.

Easter Sunday

We had breakfast at church from 9 to 10 a.m. It was a potluck type. I took two fruit trays and Sis made a pan of monkey bread.

A baby was baptized during the morning service. We had a larger number than usual in attendance today.

After church we came home and had ham, baked beans, macaroni salad, and asparagus for dinner. For supper we had some of the fruit.

We talked to Jr & Kathy this afternoon and later I called Edna.

I got up to Leviticus in the Old Testament, but decided to skip it and Numbers for the present and move on to Deuteronomy. So I started reading Deut. this morning, as well as continuing with Psalms and Acts. Sometimes I read it online and other times I read it in my large-print Bible.

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Friday, April 2, 2010

Friday, April 2, 2010 Leviticus 1-3, Psalms 92-93, Acts 1-3

The heated rice bag helped ease the pain in my knee last night and I slept pretty good.

I worked until noon, then went to the beauty shop for my usual weekly appointment.

I did laundry this evening and made a loaf of white bread in the bread machine.

Thursday, April 1, 2010

We went to La Chinita restaurant for supper. I wonder why Chinese restaurants always give such huge servings. I ordered Won Ton soup, Crab Rangoon, and Almond chicken. It came with fried rice. I ate all I wanted and still brought enough home for two more meals…and that was just my meal. Sis brought about the same amount of hers home.

Then we went grocery shopping. By the time we got home and got the groceries in and put away, we were both tired. I sat down in the recliner about 6 p.m. to watch the news and soon fell asleep. I woke up about 7 p.m., feeling very stiff.
