We took the kittens to the vet this morning for their first shots. They are 6 weeks old now. Three of them are doing great, but the smallest one isn't coming along as well. The vet put her on antibiotics for a week.

Here we are at the Memorial weekend picnic. It was held in the meeting room at the Best Western Motel.

There were around 50 of us there and we had a wonderful time.

We had a Memorial weekend picnic Saturday in Kerrville, TX. At least 50 of us got together. We visited, picnicked, had a Veterans' ceremony in the afternoon, all great, until the hostess for the event fell and broke her arm. She will have to have surgery for it sometime this week.

The kittens at 5 weeks old. They don't stay in the crate any more. We just put them in there to be able to keep them together long enough to take their pictures. They are very lively and spend a lot of time running and playing and wrestling with each other.

What a weird dream I just had! I dreamed that I was picked up by a tornado near Dayton, Ohio (somewhere near where I used to live years ago) and dropped into a field near Reno, Nevada (a place I’ve never been). The dream seemed to last quite awhile, during which time I was trying to find a way to contact my family in Ohio. I have read that dreams really last only a few seconds, but this seemed to last longer than that. It had to have all happened within the last hour though, because I was awake around 4 a.m. and went back to sleep and it is now just after 5 a.m.

Lunch at Bud Jones today, then a nice afternoon nap and read the Sunday paper. The kittens were very playful out on the porch.

The BBQ was great. The brisket was tender and flavorful; the potato salad and beans good. We didn't stay for all the games, etc. as we had to go do our weekly shopping, but it looked like it was already well attended, and that was right after they started serving.

It is a hot day and Wal-Mart with its crowds always tires me out, so I was glad to get home. We sat out on the back porch with coffee and watched the kittens play for a few minutes. Calvin went out too and checked them out. He isn't real sure about them yet, but he doesn't threaten them - although he did growl a bit when one of them came too close to him. We brought him inside when we came back in. The air conditioning feels good in here.

We have switched from canned cat food to dry kitten food for three of the kittens, but the fourth, a little black one, seems a little behind the others in progress and not as lively, so he is still on canned food and is put in the crate to eat it so the others won't horn in and take it away from him. The other three are very lively and run around and play actively with each other until tired; then they all lie down in a heap and nap for awhile. They are all using their litter boxes now - thank goodness for that! We are using clumping litter and the sifting liners in the boxes, to make it easier to change with that many using the boxes. Right now we put out two low cardboard boxes for them to use.
