We are getting some very much needed rain. It is 8:45 a.m., but so dark outside my office window that it looks like late evening. It started raining shortly after I got here this morning and has been raining heavily most of the time since then. Lots of rumbling with all the thunder, but I haven't seen any lightning.

A storm bearing lightning and heavy rain lumbered its way across San Antonio this morning, just in time to create rush-hour headaches.

Streets quickly filled with water, and traffic was brought to a near-standstill in some places. One motorist crawling south on U.S. 281 said by cellphone that the rainfall was “like a hurricane.”

A high-water rescue call on O’Connor Road was called off after the motorist reportedly pushed his car out of the water.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Bexar County until 11 a.m. The weather service said it expected the storm to produce 3 to 4 inches of rain across the San Antonio area.

The storm moved across the city from the north."
